On June 21, 2024, the American Legion Florida Boys State concluded its 80th session and held its graduation ceremony at Tallahassee. The five delegates, sponsored by Post 63, represented West Orange High School AFJROTC and Boys Scouts of America. Each of the delegates, were selected to attend based on academics, community involvement, leadership and patriotism. They gained an appreciation for patriotism, and learned about the structure of government, the law and court system, parliamentary procedure, Florida's political history and they built a representative government from the ground up. Each of the Post 63 delegates gained hands-on experience to leadership by taking part in the political process through role-play civic exercises.
Gabriel Motta was elected as a representative in the House of Representatives to debate bills in the House. He also was elected the Health and Pollution Chief of his city; his duty consisted of making sure his city hallway was clean throughout the entirety of Boys State.
Antonio Torre was elected mayor of his city. His duties were to make sure everyone was awake on time and ready to start the day accordingly, as well as overall leading his city throughout the day. He was also elected as a senator, allowing him to debate bills in the Senate.
Ethan Kirtley was elected mayor as well and elected as a representative in the House of Representatives, allowing him to debate bills in the House.
Alonzo Ramessar was elected for the Assembly, allowing him to debate bills in the Assembly.
Matthieu Doherty was a member of the Press Corps, leading the daily Boys State news as the Production Director and assisting with video editing.
Their experience established new and lasting friendships with young men from across the state who have the eagerness to be a servant leaders in their schools and communities.
